The soul-stirring musical The Color Purple comes to the Palace Theater from Friday, May 7 through Sunday, May 9! And don't forget - Sunday is Mothers Day - what a perfect gift for the special woman in your life!

Some Color Purple fun facts:

The movie, starring Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover and Oprah Winfrey, was released in 1985 and is based on the 1982 novel by Alice Walker.

The musical version, produced by Oprah Winfrey, opened on Broadway on December 1, 2005 and closed on February 24, 2008.

American Idol alumni Fantasia Barrino took over the lead on Broadway in 2007.

Here are some fun facts about Disney's Beauty and the Beast:

Disney's animated film Beauty and the Beast premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 13, 1991.

The song "Human Again" was cut from the original film but put back in for the stage musical!

The Broadway musical opened on April 18, 1994 at the Palace Theater in New York City and closed on July July 29, 2007 after 5461 performances.

The production moved from the Palace Theater to the Lunt-Fontanne Theater in 1999 so the Palace Theater could house the Disney / Elton John musical Aida.

Tom Bosley, the actor who played the father on the smash hit TV show "Happy Days" was the original Maurice (Belle's father) on Broadway.

Welcome to our first blog post! The Palace Theater is excited to add an informative and fun blog to our website and we hope you enjoy it!

We have alot of exciting shows coming this spring! First up is the Tony Award Winning Musical and one of the longest running shows in Broadway history, A CHORUS LINE. The national tour of this classic show will come to the majestic Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT from Feb. 26-28, 2010. It includes such classic songs as "What I Did For Love" and "One".

Here are some fun facts about A CHORUS LINE:

A CHORUS LINE originally opened on Broadway in 1975 at the Shubert Theater and it went on to win 9 Tony Awards!
The stories in A CHORUS LINE are based on the original Broadway cast members.

A CHORUS LINE becomes Broadways longest running musical - passing GREASE - in 1983 with 3,389 performances!
After 6,137 performances, A CHORUS LINE closed on Broadway on April 28, 1990.

In 2006, A CHORUS LINE was revived on Broadway

In 2009, the national tour of A CHORUS LINE began in Denver, CO.

In 2009, a documentary about the casting process for the 2006 revival of A CHORUS LINE called "Every Little Step" was released on DVD.
